Oh My Venus

When an unfit and obese woman decides to get back in shape with the help of a celebrity trainer, will she be able to find the love she has always been searching for?

This drama follows the life of a woman who was extremely hot and popular when she was in school. However, as she grows older, even though she is good at what she does, she has become obese due to her unhealthy lifestyle. Everyone around her always dismisses her, and she feels quite low. The final straw comes when her long-time boyfriend dumps her for her attractive boss. She now decides to get back in shape no matter what to get revenge. Luck throws her in the path of a celebrity trainer who comes back to Korea due to a scandal in the US. As they begin to work towards her fitness, they start realizing that maybe they are meant for each other.

I had mixed feelings about this one. Primarily because the idea that you are unlovable if you are fat is absolutely ridiculous. I truly believe that what matters is how we are from the inside and not how we are from the outside. The drama successfully showed how society does not show respect to anybody who does not fit their standards of beauty. However, it also aligned itself with society and did not start the romance plot between the leads until she lost weight. So, after all they only participated in what is wrong and should be stopped. Overall, this drama does not have a bad story, so if you like romance stories, you might enjoy this. But, if you dislike adhering to society’s standards of beauty, then you might not like this one much. I will leave the decision up to you.
