Oh! My Sweet Liar!

When a crafty female painter meets a fierce general, will love bring them together, or will it tear them apart forever?

This drama follows the life of a painter who writes graphic stories. When she is blackmailed into stepping inside the prosperous Li Mansion to copy a painting, and she misunderstands it, things suddenly get perilous for her. On top of her current mission, things get more complicated when the elder son, a famous Li Family general, returns and catches her red-handed. She decides to lie to him by saying that she is pregnant with his child in order to save her life. On the other hand, he decides to use her to escape from an arranged marriage with the Song Family. However, while both are trying to outwit everyone around them, they don’t realize when they start caring for each other. The rest of the story continues the battle of hearts that these two inherently start.

Personally, I enjoyed the story. Even though 29 episodes seemed a little bit of a stretch for a story that could have been done in 20 episodes, the characters were a delight to watch. The good thing about this Chinese drama is that it does not take itself too seriously. Apart from the two characters, none of the characters are shown in evil light for long and the plot kept on moving. Another plus is that, there are almost no unnecessary misunderstandings between the leads, or if there are, they get resolved pretty quickly, so it doesn’t seem like a drag. The love between the leads is also pretty balanced and sweet for the most part, and it makes you want to wish that they end up together. I would say go for this if you enjoy an intense romance in the backdrop of historical events.
